Arrival into Madrid's Barajas International airport before transfering to our hotel to check in, deposit luggage, freshen up and them immediately begin our explorations of the Spanish capital (and beat our jet-lag) on foot. Rode the metro (subway) into the historic heart of Madrid and enjoyed an orientation walking tour. Strolled through the Puerta del Sol (Spain's geographical centre), the beautiful Plaza Mayor and the narrow streets and squares of the Habsburg district. Later visited the 'Reina Sofía' contemporary art gallery to see Picasso's Civil War masterpiece 'Gernika' before dinner in a local resturant and a weary metro ride back to the hotel for a long and extremely well earned rest.
