Day 2: July 08, 2008
Ciao Roma. We have landed in the Eternal City of the Roman Empire. Caput Mundi, the Capital of the World. The same city where Charlemagne had himself crowned 'Holy' Roman Emperor, signifying that the old Roman Empire was revived and reunited as a Christian Empire. When Europe was united in the Catholic Faith, pilgrims journeyed to the Vatican. In 1300, the first declared Holy Year 30,000 pilgrims reached Rome in a single day. By 1450 it had increased to 40,000. And in 2008 we add up to the list...We will surely fell in love with this city. We want to learn how to bargain and how to order a gelato. Life in this place must be wonderful. We want to stay here and eat gelatos all life long.
